Your Beauty Is More than Skin Deep – Beloved Women – December 19, 2018
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. - 1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV
Maintaining beauty and body image is a full-time job for most women. Daily facial and skin regiments occupy our time, and the media is obsessed with presenting products that will attempt to slow down the aging process.
Our constant pursuit of achieving the perfect weight or body can leave us frustrated with unrealistic expectations. God wants us to embrace our beauty beyond skin deep. In 1 Peter 3:3-4, Peter is giving wisdom to wives to not focus only on their outward appearance, but inwardly. The message of celebrating all of our beauty applies to both women and men.
When God created us in His image, He knew we would be imperfect because of the impact of sin on creation. Our character, flaws, and our bodies are all beautiful in God’s sight. Learning to celebrate our inner and outer beauty is essential to sustain a positive self-esteem and growth. I encourage you to celebrate your total beauty with all of your flaws. The world’s standard of beauty focuses on outward appearance, but God celebrates our inner spirit.
Dear God, thank you for loving all of me and creating me in your image. Please help me to embrace and celebrate the beauty of all of me including my flaws, and imperfections. Forgive me for times when I have negatively spoken about my body and spent too much time changing what you created. Thank you for creating me and help me to meditate on your truth about me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
What is one area of your inward spirit or character that you can celebrate its beauty?
