Warning, God at Work
By Kristen Terrette

“… for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

Ever wonder what mentality enables a firefighter to run into a burning building? Or a rescue swimmer to jump into the ocean to save a drowning victim? What provokes the emergency room doctor to spring into action at the sight of blood? Many in my family work in the emergency medical field, and I often wonder why the hero gene skipped me.

Whatever our calling or gifts, today’s verse assures us God’s purpose prevails. He places the desire inside us to read the Bible. He urges us to do good in the world, in response to the amazing saving grace He’s shown us.

God is at work in the lives of those who believe in Him. If He created and confirmed in me the desire to wrestle flames in a burning house or dive into a raging sea to save someone’s life, I would know that was God’s will for me in that moment. I would not falter. I would simply take the next step toward obedience wherever He leads.

Take a moment to assess your life as a Christ-follower. Are you letting God guide your desires and actions? If you’re obedient, don’t fret. He will accomplish what He’s set out to do in you and through you.
