Jesus’ Invitation to Follow Him

“The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, He said to him, ‘Follow me.’” John 1:43
Will I let God be God today? The answer depends on how much I trust Him. I have natural leadership qualities. I start Bible studies, teach classes, am the point person on projects, and am raising kids. I’m so used to leading everyone else that I sometimes struggle to trust Jesus with my life.
Then I had my third child. I could no longer adequately juggle all my family’s needs on my own. I was drowning in a sea of fatigue and anxiety. How could I make sure my children grew up to be intelligent, successful, productive people and teach them to know and follow Jesus? The weight of motherhood seemed too much to bear.
I needed to relinquish control, stop trying so hard, and just follow Jesus. But how? It’s not like I could see His physical face and hear His auditory voice. How could I follow God in the 21st century?
God revealed the answer to my striving heart: by reading truth in the Bible, praying, and following the Holy Spirit as He teaches and leads me. He’s the Helper God has given us.
It’s time to let the Holy Spirit take the lead.
