Jealousy Between Friends – Beloved Women – February 5, 2024

READ: “Thieves are jealous of each other’s loot, but the godly are well rooted and bear their own fruit.” (Proverbs 2:12 NLT)

TODAY'S ENCOURAGEMENT: It was years ago, but the night before my wedding one of my bridesmaids made a confession. She said, "I'm jealous of you." I thought she was supposed to be happy for me. However, her longing to be married pushed friendship out of the way and envy stepped in. Because that’s what coveting does. It values what belongs to others above what God has given to us. I wanted to empathize with her. I was hours away from wedded bliss and she had yet to bear the fruit of her desire. However, I had no words. I knew there was no comparison.

Because nothing compares to God's plan for each of us. It’s unique and infinitely better than we can imagine. However, it's hard to sense if we’re looking at someone else. My friend must have realized that because she was a smiling bridesmaid the next day. I want to encourage you today that when we choose to celebrate each other's blessings, comparison ends and trusting God begins.

PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, I confess any coveting or envy in my heart. May my desire for what someone else has become a sacrifice of praise to You. I know your plan for my life is good. Strengthen me to believe it and to rejoice with others as You bless them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

REFLECT: How has coveting or envy impacted your relationships? What is your response to someone who is struggling? How has God helped you when you struggle in these areas? Let’s chat more in the comments.
