TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” - Hebrews 10:23

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Have you ever grown tired of waiting? Maybe it was for a dream job, to meet a special someone, or to achieve a certain goal? For others of you, perhaps this waiting was for an answer to prayer, to have a baby, or finally be debt-free. Whatever the dream, waiting for something to come to fruition can be exhausting. But does it have to be this way forever?

In Hebrews 10:23, scripture reminds us that waiting will be exhausting. There’s no lack of evidence here. But amidst this weariness, we’re told to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). The Message translation says it this way: “Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word.” The Passion says it even more beautifully: “So now wrap your heart tightly around the hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps his promises!"

While I wish I could spare you from growing weary and tired in this life, I can’t. But what I can do is point you to the hope that exists when we bring that exhaustion to the feet of Jesus Christ. Bringing our sorrows to His feet doesn’t mean our tiredness will magically disappear, but it means that we can remind our souls to cling to hope, even when things are hard and don’t make sense. Why? Because Jesus Christ lives within us, and He alone gives us strength and hope. So, even when we’re defeated and feel done, we know that God keeps His promises to us. And what are those promises?

  • Jesus paid the price once for all time for our sins.
  • Jesus loves us.
  • We are forgiven.
  • We are children of God.
  • Our eternal home is Heaven.
  • This world is not the end.
  • We have been cleansed.

When we remind ourselves of these truths, we have the strength we need to endure even the worst exhaustion. Not because the tiredness fades, but because we gain an eternal perspective: this life is temporary, but someday, we will enter a home where fatigue will cease to exist. We cling tightly to growing steadiness in quiet faithfulness because we know the truth of these scriptures. And those truths will set us free. Faithfulness is steady, not because we take large or dramatic steps, but because we take small, consistent ones over time.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Jesus,
Learning to stay steady in your truth when life gets heavy can be exhausting. If I’m honest, I feel beaten down and too defeated to stand. But you, oh, Lord, are my strength and shield. You pick me up with your right hand and set me on steady ground. As I endure in quiet faithfulness, renew my spirit. Remind me of your promises. Help me cling to them and wrap them tightly around my heart. You keep your word, Jesus, and I will trust you. Thank you for loving me well, Lord.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

  1. What’s one way you can grow steadily in quiet faithfulness this week? Talk to a friend or family member about this and ask them to keep you accountable.
  2. Read Hebrews 10. Make a list of God’s promises we can glean from Scripture and apply to our lives today.
  3. Journal about Hebrews 10:23. What does this verse personally mean to you?
