God’s Steady Hand in Changing Seasons
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” -Hebrews 13:8
SOMETHING TO PONDER
As humans, we’re used to changes in the climate, temperature, and scenery, experiencing spring, summer, fall, and winter. Used to it mostly because we have no choice in it, as God has set up the seasons and tells us in Genesis 8:22, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
Although we can’t control the changes in the weather, we can find comfort, peace, and rest in knowing that God’s hand is in the changes. They aren’t just happening on their own; seasons answer to Him and accomplish His will on earth.
This goes for the changes in our own lives, too. We can’t control what goes on around us but we can be confident that God’s hand is holding ours and helping us through them.
As He assures us, “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13).
Often, it may not seem like God’s with us, holding our hand, helping us, when we feel like we’re flailing like crazy and tripping over the changes coming at us. During those times, we may not sense His holding our heads above water and clearing the path before us.
Like the changing seasons throughout the year, where we may want to hang onto the long, warm, light-filled summer days, the changes in life still come, not asking our permission or slowing down because we’re not ready yet, invading and taking over our comfort zones.
When changes seem like they are steamrolling over us even though we want them to stop, we can turn to God’s steadiness and hold onto Him, knowing He is with us, not letting us go, though they may seem unstoppable. John 10:28 reminds us that, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
Although we may feel unprepared to face changing times, we can find comfort and an evenness in His presence, trusting Him in the middle of mild-to-roller-coaster changes, knowing He’s leading us and we are safe to follow along, confident that His grip on our hand won’t wane or let loose of us.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Dear Father,
Thank you for being the same yesterday, today, and forever, for your steady, constant, and unchanging presence in our lives. Our hearts are deeply grateful that we can hold onto Your hand throughout the changing seasons, knowing You won’t let go of us or lead us down a wrong pathway. Help us to rely on you to help us through the unfamiliar and rough spots that come with changes.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. How are you feeling about the summer months coming to a close this year? Are you looking forward to the next season, or are you trying to hang on longer?
2. What do you most enjoy about summer? Are there ways you can carry some of your summer months’ enjoyment throughout the entire year?
3. Do you trust God for your next season in life? If not, what is holding you back? Are you willing to let go and believe He is leading you?
