Your Nightly Prayer

Fear Has No Place in Your Faith

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, 'Do not fear, only believe.'” -Mark 5:36

SOMETHING TO PONDER

The Bible contains 365 reminders to not be afraid, interestingly one for everyday of the year. I am certain that’s how many times we need to be reminded of this truth. Every day comes with its own set of fears, concerns, anxieties, and problems. We need the Holy Spirit to whisper courage and strength into our souls so we have the strength to move forward by faith and not get tripped up by our fears.

While fear is a normal human response, it is not how things were meant to be. Fear is a result of sin and separation from God. When we are in God’s presence and living with hearts full of faith, understanding the magnificent power of our Creator, fear has no room in our hearts.

Have you noticed that when you feel the spirit prompting you and you obey, suddenly you grow so much bolder and confident! That’s because it’s not by our strength but by his power that we are able to live by faith. We are fearless because we serve a good God, not because we have any ability to protect or provide for ourselves.

Fear typically grows in the recesses of our imaginations. We spend time meditating on so many things that can go wrong in our lives. Recently, I was challenged to actively take my time imagining things going right! Imagine God providing the finances you need, the healing you’ve hoped for, the strength to forgive, the way forward in your marriage, the path to parenthood, the ministry breakthrough you’ve prayed for.

Imagine him being there for you because scripture teaches God’s presence is always with us. We will never face a day alone, and that fact should fuel our faith and squash our fears.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
Help us believe. Continue to remind us daily that fear is not from you! By faith, we can live bold and peaceful lives. Let us use our imaginations to consider how great a God you are. How capable you are of caring for us. How you desire to provide all we need and even grant us the desires of our hearts. We thank you for never leaving us. Your power and presence are always with us. Even in the hard moments, you strengthen us so we can live with no fear. We love you.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1.    How has God provided for you in the past? Don’t forget his faithfulness.

2.    Imagine God coming through for you. How would that feel? How would you give him glory for his goodness?

3.    Consider God’s power. Remember, in light of his ability, fear is not a rational response.
