Faith When You Can’t See the Path
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." - Isaiah 42:16

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Have you ever followed your GPS and started wondering if it had completely lost its mind? (I have an ongoing fight with mine) You type in the address, hit start, and off you go. Everything starts out fine until it reroutes you down a bunch of side streets and through neighborhoods you don’t recognize. There may even be a few sketchy turns that make you grip the wheel a little tighter. You look around and think, “Where in the world is this thing taking me?” because this path makes no sense. The irony of it all is that even with all the second-guessing going on in your head, you keep driving. Partly because you still trust what it is telling you, and honestly, because you are too far into the trip to turn back now. The only option is to follow the voice and hope it gets you there.

That’s exactly how it can feel sometimes when you’re following God. There are moments when the road is wide open, the direction is clear, and you can move with boldness. Yet there are other times when the path ahead seems hidden. The signs are few, and the map feels vague. You have stepped out in faith and gone too far to turn back, so all you can do is take the next step he shows you, even if it makes little sense.

That’s where verses like Isaiah 42:16 can become your anchor.

God says, “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known... I will guide them.” God’s promise to you is that even when you can't see the way forward, he can. He’s not asking you to understand the journey, he’s asking you to trust him through it.

There are two powerful promises tucked into this verse:

1. God will guide you – even through the unfamiliar.
2. God will not forsake you – even in the dark places.

He may not always lead you through the well-lit, well-paved highways of life. Sometimes, he takes you through the narrow roads and quiet paths. These may be a little uncomfortable, but in these places, your only security is in him. The best part is he doesn’t just send you into the unknown, he walks with you through it.

He makes the unfamiliar familiar. He smooths out what was once rough. Even when you feel blind to what’s next, he sees everything perfectly. That’s why you can still have faith even when you can’t see what’s next, because your steps are being guided by the one who sees all. He never makes a wrong turn, and when he is leading, you will arrive safely at your destination.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Lord,
Help me to keep trusting you when the paths are unclear and I just don’t know what comes next. Remind me in these moments that you are still with me and help me rest in that promise. Help me know that regardless of what I see, they are just steps along the way of you guiding me to the place you have ordained for me to go. Let this be the comfort that carries me in those uncomfortable moments of life.
In Jesus' name, amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Faith does not remove the questions, but causes you to trust the one who leads you when you don’t have answers.

2. God does his deepest work of growth and transformation while you are on the journey, not when you arrive at the destination.

3. Your confidence should not come from seeing what is ahead, but from the one who is walking with you along the way.
