Surrender to Sovereignty
By: Jaime Wyrtzen Lauze´

Whenever I’ve read any of the gospel accounts of Jesus right before His crucifixion, I’ve always been amazed by how he surrenders to it. If any of you are like me, giving in to God’s plans is not easy. I find myself fighting it whether I’m aware of it or not.

I don’t like change. I especially have a hard time when changes are big and permanent.  We know that the only thing that never changes is Jesus. But if we are going to conform into His image, we have to be willing to change. If we want to fit into the big picture of our changeless God, we have to surrender to His sovereignty.

When Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, He totally and completely surrendered. He did not fight.  He did not protest. He did not defend Himself. He let the whole thing play out in obedience to His Father, the One who saw the big picture. He sacrificed Himself to that vision because He knew that vision would be our salvation, our redemption.

When I am faced with a change that God is asking me to make, when I am finding life going in a different direction than what I thought, I always find myself in the same place. It’s usually when I’m about to fall asleep and my mind is skimming over what I’m facing. I always have the realization that I’ve been unknowingly resisting God. I’m tense. That’s when I breathe out slowly and surrender to the plan of my Creator.

Are you holding back from God?  Give in to Him and His plan of redemption.
