Feeding My Heart - Beloved Women – March 5, 2019

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23 NIV

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

You have probably heard the popular saying “you are what you eat”. This means that the things we eat affect our health. Eating the right things keep us healthy while the wrong things do the opposite.

This principle also translates to what we feed our souls. There is a proverb that says a lion cannot give birth to a sheep. This means that filling our hearts with the wrong things will not lead to a healthy Christian lifestyle.

For a long time, I failed to rein in what I consumed—provocative songs, movies, and books. I thought it was okay not realizing how these things tainted my thoughts.

I have since learned that what we consume affects what we believe and say. This is why we must guard our senses; what we see, hear, speak and think. We need to feed on God’s word, on the truth, on what is right, noble, and praiseworthy. This is the recipe to grow as God’s beloved children.

PRAY

My Father and Lord, please forgive me for not being mindful of what I feed my heart. Lord God, I ask for Your strength to discipline my flesh and it’s lusts. Lord, help me focus on the right things. Let me fill my time with the things that are of You. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.

REFLECT

What are you feeding your heart? Write out your current activities: where do you spend the majority of your time? Are you caught up on social media or listening to the wrong things?
