Resting in God's Strength
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him.” - Psalm 28:7
SOMETHING TO PONDER
Psalm 28, like numerous other Psalms, is penned by King David, most likely during the time he served as king of Israel. It doesn’t take you to read too far into David’s life to see the ups and downs he faced both as a shepherd boy and as a king. This Psalm begins with David crying out once again for God to listen to him. David uses the phrase “Do not turn a deaf ear to me”. This is a passionate plea from this king to the King of Kings in a moment of distress.
I am sure we have all been in a similar position. A moment when we simply needed God to intervene, a moment where God would step into our earthly torment and lift us out of it. For God to divert the hot fiery arrows that are flying towards us, or silence the mouths that attack us, even to repay those who harm us!
I know I have been in that position, even recently. My husband and I have been leaning on God a lot!
For those of you who are with us in the trenches, looking at mountains that seem immovable and not mountain tops, know this, friend: the Lord does hear you.
For those of us who are tired, for those of us who have exhausted souls, know that the Lord is your resting place.
For those of us who feel like they cannot take another step, know that the Lord does not just cheer us on, but he carries us when we cannot go on.
For those of us who do not know where our provision is coming from, know that the Lord is Jehovah Jireh and He will provide for all your needs.
Friend, this verse reminds us that by trusting in God, we find strength to stand another day or fight again, and a shield that will protect us from the worst of what could come. The Lord can be trusted no matter what circumstances we face.
I pray that in the near future you will declare just as David says here, “Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.”
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Dear Jesus,
In this season, I feel as though the world is against me, like all of hell has exploded around me, and I am being attacked. Yet I know you are a shield and my strength, and despite how this feels, I am choosing to lean in to you, to look to you, and to trust you to keep me and my family safe in all that goes on around us. I am trusting you Jesus to be our portion, to be a safe refuge, and to carry us to the other side of this torment.
In Jesus name
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. Jesus is always with us, no matter what life is throwing at us. Jesus is right there with us. He is always interceding for us and is keeping his eye on us. Breathe, friend, you are not alone.
2. When you cannot go any further, Jesus is kind enough to reach down and place us in his arms to carry us. You need not use your own strength; find yourself lost in His.
3. One day, Revelations tells us, the sickness, stress, anxiety, attacks of this world will be no more, we will be in heaven with God, seeing our Jesus face to face, reigning forever. Friend, this life feels heavy, but one day it will all make sense. Hold on to Jesus!
