Recognizing Christ’s Voice
By Andrea Chatelain

“The gatekeeper opens the gate for Him, and the sheep listen to His voice. He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.  When He has brought out all his own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.” John 10:3-4

Jesus knows your name. Sometimes that’s hard to believe that the almighty King of the Heavens and earth knows and calls out for you each day. But what is He saying and how do we know that voice comes from Him?

You won’t necessarily hear Him with your ears, but you will in your spirit. In the midst of pain, His voice comforts and reminds us that He’ll be faithful to the end. During uncertainty, He urges us to trust in His perfect ways even when we don’t understand. And when we’re wronged and angry, He pushes for love, mercy, and forgiveness.

But we get to decide how well we’ll listen. We can choose to ignore what He’s trying to teach us and go our own way, or we can follow Him. Many times I’ve decided my idea was the better option and led myself into trouble. I’ve created messes of relationships because I didn’t follow His guidance to remain quiet, patient, forgive, or show mercy!

God is calling us to listen to His voice, not because He’s a dictator, but because He loves us and knows the proper way out of our mess. Find some quiet time today, open your Bible or talk to Him in prayer, and follow His leading.
