Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Café Menu for Monday, November 16, 2015

Today’s Special is:  Do I Matter After All?

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Aj Luck

Main Ingredient:

So all of us who have had the veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.  And the Lord who is the Spirit makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT

Entrée:

Some days I often wonder, did the evil queen, who despised Snow White, ever ask her mirror this:

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, do I matter after all?

She had the greatest, most powerful mirror in all of the land.  Yet, she never asked it to show her anything about her significance.  HER REAL SIGNIFICANCE.

Wonder why that was?

If you ask me, I would say, it was simply because at the core of who she was, she was a woman.  Every woman I know struggles, at some level, with feelings of significance, but they don’t have to.

Do I matter?  Do I make a difference?  Who am I... really?  What will people say of me once I’m gone?

A few years ago I was struggling with depression.  When I say struggle I mean, couldn’t get out of bed, sad through my bones depressed.  I had no particular reason, I was just… depressed.

I felt so broken, worthless and alone.  I couldn’t stand to be around me, so naturally I assumed no one WANTED to be around me, including God.

Laying across my bed I closed my eyes.  I was desperate to try and stop the voices that were chiming in about how much of a horrible failure I was at... well, at everything.

Then I began to fall into somewhat of a twilight sleep.

Here is what I saw in my mind's eye.

It was a beautiful black starry night.  Somehow I knew I was in space.  I saw myself on the far right hand side.  I was TINY.  (I’m talking the size of half of a flea’s wing, tiny.)  Then to my left stood Jesus.  His right sandaled foot was curved, standing over the Earth.  He turned and looked directly at me.  He pointed His finger at me and said,

Why do you see yourself so small?  For I live on the inside of you.

I woke up and realized He was right.  I was allowing everything except Him to define the way I was seeing myself.

Isn’t this what we all tend to do?

Next time we feel small and insignificant, remember… the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth lives inside of our hearts.  He is with us, always.

Jesus sees us through His image, perfect and made whole.  He is the only mirror that we REALLY need.

Take Out:

The next time you begin to hear the enemy whisper lies into your heart about who you are, whisper these words back to him:

I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:37

I am the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:21

God is for me and not against me.

Psalm 118:6

God has a good and perfect plan for my life.

Jeremiah 29:11

I am an overcomer through Jesus Christ.

1 John 4:4

I am never alone.

Psalm 116:8-11

Jesus has already defeated Satan.

Colossians 1:13

Satan even tried to mess with Jesus in the dessert... Jesus did the same thing.  He fought back against the enemy using the Word of God.

So humble yourselves before God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

James 4:7 NLT

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony...

Revelation 12:11 KJV

When the enemy tries to lie to you… just talk back.  The TRUTH will set you free!

Dessert:

Dear Jesus, sometimes there are simply days where I feel so inadequate.  All I can see are my flaws and shortcomings.  It’s difficult in those times to see what You see in me.  It’s even more difficult to comprehend how You can love me so unconditionally.

Forgive me for the times that I doubt and fear.  Forgive me for trying to lean on my own understanding of who I am supposed to be in You.  Open my eyes to see not only me, but others around me, the way You do.  Help my heart to comprehend Your love and compassion.  Finally Father, help me to realize that there is power and purpose in our significance and help me resist the enemy when he tries to tell me otherwise.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
