Today’s Special is: The God Who Sees Me – Jehovah Roi
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Luann
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
In the upper room with Jesus.
Do you remember that old song?
As a kid I really didn’t appreciate the words or the meaning. But lately, the thought grows sweeter and sweeter to me.
Recently we took the bonus room above our garage and transformed it into a retreat-like space. My desk and work stuff in back fills one corner. The Encouragement Cafe table and studio equipment fills the middle of the room. But tucked over into the right corner is my, gotta-get-away-with-Jesus space.
It has a cozy red chair with a wrought iron table lamp softly tipping light onto my lap. My feet are propped up on the decorative trunk that anchors that beautiful cushy rug beneath my toes. And of course, there is a tiny little stand, just big enough to hold my coffee cup. And rows of shelving hold the multiple Bibles and reference materials.
This is by far, my favorite place. It’s not the place as much as it is the presence, I enjoy there. I know, God is everywhere, but sometimes my mind checks out. Preparing a place that belongs to me and Jesus really helps me keep the first things first.
Think I’ll flee this morning to my upper room and spend some time with my best friend. Want to join me?
How about it? Where is your favorite place to get alone with Jesus? Do you have a gotta-get-away-with-Jesus space?
If you already have a favorite place, we’d love for you to share it with us in the comment box below. Let us know what you’ve done to make it unique. If you don’t already have a place, we would like to encourage you to take some time today and either locate a space or create one.
Dear Jesus, I love to be in Your presence! Thanks for setting the example for us, of getting alone with Your Father. Sometimes I forget how incredibly important it is to simply Be Still and Know that You are God, and I am not. Today, settle me, forgive me and sweep over my soul with Your calming presence, I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
