Waiting To Soar
By Carolyn Dale Newell

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31 NKJV

Waiting… it’s not something I do well.  Throughout Scripture, we are commanded to wait on the Lord (Ps. 37:34, Is. 8:17).

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalm 27:14 NKJV

Patience is a fruit of the Spirit and a virtue which I sorely lack.  Can you relate?

The truth is we are going to have to wait.  It cannot be avoided, so we ought to learn to do it with patience. Impatience will not make things happen any faster.  It just makes us more agitated and irritable during the wait.  We can yield to the Spirit and be patient, or we can grieve the Spirit as we yield to the flesh.

I began doing some research, and I discovered one thing eagles wait for.  Baby eagles have to wait for the wind to fly.  They usually fly at about 12 weeks old, but some fly sooner and some fly later depending on the winds.  Even adult eagles use the wind.  These strong birds which can fly at speeds up to 40 miles per hour wait on thermal convection currents to carry them.

What does this have to do with waiting on the Lord?

Despite their ability, eagles wait on the wind.  In spite of our inability, we wait on God.  We wait for His winds to come and lift us up to unimaginable heights.  Wait for the wind of strength, comfort, and grace.  Winds of healing, provision, and mercy.  We will soar on the winds of the Holy Spirit, and we will not grow weary, nor will we faint.

Sometimes the wait is long, and other times it is short, but one truth remains:

God always makes it worth the wait

What are you waiting on?

Read the following verses, and ask God to give you patience and wisdom as you wait.  Psalm 37:34 and Isaiah 8:17.

Heavenly Father, help me wait on Your timing.  It is always best.  Help me wait patiently, yielding to Your sweet Spirit.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
