GOD IS NEARER STILL

But you are near, O Lord, and all your commandments are true. Psalm 119:151

When someone is outside the house, on your property, meaning to do you harm, you want the policeman on the inside of the house with you. Safety would be closer in proximity than harm. No matter where the threats are today, trouble can not separate me from God’s presence. He is around me. He is inside of me. And with Him comes not only comfort, but aid.

David is comforted by the fact that, not only is God nearer than his enemies, but in the face of evil, God’s commandments are still true. Why is that important? Because down through the ages, enemies of God’s people have taunted in tandem with harassment. “Where is your God now?”

No matter how much other’s attacks attempt to nullify God’s truths and personal promises made to me, His words remain true in the face in evil. Others may try to make me feel alone. Though physically isolated, God never leaves me. Others may try to flaunt my failures. God whispers and reminds me that He has put all repented sin behind His back and He’ll never take them out again, hold them up to my face and say, “Remember what you did?!” Others may insinuate that I am unwanted. God longs for my company and His love for me never grows lukewarm. Others may tire of my pain and suggest that I should be past it. God is loving and kind and sticks with me through the long process of healing and re-training.

No matter what the threat is today, regardless of whether it’s internal or external, God is nearer still. And no matter what lies from others lips would love to erase the truth of God from my heart, it is indelible. The ink is permanent and nothing can smudge it, much less erase its effects.

I can fear many things today but you are closer to me than all of them. Though you are discredited by many who will speak words You’d never speak to me, Your Word is true and written permanently across my day. Hallelujah. Amen.
