When Life Swirls with Uncertainty

Sharon W. Betters

TODAY’S TREASURE

I wait for the Lord; I wait and put my hope in His word (Psalm 130:5).

Dear Friends,

Today we continue with Part 7 of the What She Said! Series. Have you ever read a blog, heard a speaker, or read a book and declared, “What she said!” Many of you know that’s the goal of our guest writer’s series. I have “met” many of the writers through their blogs, articles, or books. Others are recommended by a friend because they know this person has a story to tell and a gift for writing. I love that the Daily Treasure platform gives us an opportunity to introduce our audience to new writers whose passion for Jesus shines through every word.

Sarah Didier Jefferson is one of those writers I have never physically met. A friend recommended I check out her writing, and I’m so glad I did.

When I first recorded this message, Sarah’s mother, Judy, was fighting a difficult physical battle. I “met” Judy through Susan Hunt. Judy is one of our storytellers for Aging with Grace. She also participated in the Ask an Older Woman video series (learn more at agingwithgrace.online). As I previewed Sarah’s devotionals, I was moved by how scripture intertwines with her faith and how these truths are even more precious as she walks with her mother through a very hard season.

In Monday’s devotional, Sarah writes:

When life swirls about with heartache and uncertainty, those dark and piercing hours of struggle, do not neglect your time in the Word. He will faithfully meet you there. But we must also develop the habit of looking back on God’s past faithfulness and allow it to fuel us in our current times. It is in the very darkest of days, the driest of deserts, that I have seen God with such profound clarity. Perhaps this is why in Psalm 55:6-7, David yearned for the desert saying:

If only I had wings like a dove! I would fly far away and be at rest. I would fly away and stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm (Psalm 55:6-8).

Or, in Job’s suffering, he boldly declares:

I had heard reports about you, but now my eyes have seen you (Job 42:5).

While we would never choose the heartaches of this life, seeing Jesus in the midst of them, all brings purpose to them all. Determine now that you will not miss the beauty of Jesus in your current hard. Allow the character of our unchanging God to be the storyline so that future generations might know and see the friend we have in Jesus. (Judy Didier Jefferson)

Friends, Sarah wrote these words just a few months before sharing on July 27, 2021, on social media:

Mom is healed and whole in the presence of Jesus. We held her hand and loved her peacefully in the arms of our Jesus.

Friends, listen closely to the words of Sarah. They are fresh from the Refiner’s fire.

Treasured by Him,

Sharon
