Today’s Treasure

"So it shall be on the day when you cross the Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with lime and write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over, so that you may enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you." Deuteronomy 27:2-3

Dear Friends,

During a podcast at enCourage on Life-Giving Leadership, by Susan Hunt and Karen Hodge, I heard this powerful message: https://encourage.pcacdm.org/?s=susan+hunt+and+karen+hodge

“A life-giving leader sees how all parts of life and ministry fit together and is increasingly passionate about the small moments and tasks because she has a vision of the whole. The Westminster Confession tells us that `the Scriptures manifest themselves to be the Word of God, by their majesty and purity; by the consent of all the parts, and the scope of the whole, which is to give all glory to God.’ When we see every moment of life as one part of the whole of life and that the purpose of our lives is to glorify God, then it helps us see Scripture, to see life and to see ministry not as segments, not as individual components but as consenting parts which all together will somehow tell the gospel story. When we get that clarity of Scripture, life, and ministry, the wonderful thing that happens is that the mundane becomes majestic.”

Mundane moments take on majestic meaning. Sometimes, maybe a lot of times, we don’t see the majestic in the mundane because we don’t see “every moment of life as one part of the whole of life and that the purpose of our lives is to glorify God.” Once our hearts are open to seeing mundane moments as opportunities for God to do something majestic, “it helps us see Scripture, to see life and to see ministry not as segments, not as individual components but as consenting parts which all together will somehow tell the gospel story.”

I don’t think I recognized the power of moments until after the death of our son, Mark. It was then I eagerly, desperately watched for God to give me treasures in darkness, riches stored in secret places designed to remind me He is the Lord my God and calls me by name (Isaiah 45:2-3).

Most of the devotionals in the series, Treasures Along the Way, focus on those little moments in life. Each one is a monument designed to remind me of God’s faithfulness. I didn’t know the Lord was transforming mundane, seemingly insignificant moments into the majestic as He drew me into His heart, inviting me to taste and see that He is good. Recognizing how all the little moments are part of the bigger story, encourages me to be intentional about setting the table for those I love and inviting them to taste and see the Lord is good.

Treasured by Him,

Sharon

LIFE-GIVING LEADERSHIP

What “mundane moments” irritate you the most? Ask the Lord to open your eyes to how every detail of your life is part of the bigger story – the Gospel story. Ask him to show you how He is transforming the most mundane into the majestic, and when you cannot see it, ask Him for faith to better understand how each day brings opportunities to invite others to taste and see that the Lord is good – even in those mundane moments.
