You’ve prayed, waited, and still feel like God’s grace has run dry. What if the enemy’s biggest lie is that you’ve already used up your last drop?
Does it ever feel like God’s grace has run out on you? Like you’ve exhausted His mercy and there’s no more latitude left? If so, please know you’re not alone. Whether we verbalize it openly or not, many of us find ourselves asking, “Lord, is Your grace truly enough for this?”
In recent months, I’ve been praying for a seemingly impossible situation. From the outside, it looks like the enemy is winning. God’s grace is limited and cannot come through for our family. But I know this is one of the enemy’s tactics, to make it seem like God’s grace isn’t sufficient.
Thankfully, the Bible assures us of God’s unfathomable grace, offered lavishly to all who seek Him. When we commit our struggles to the Lord, seeking His help to overcome, we receive all the grace we need, no matter how difficult the situation. So, if you’re afraid God’s grace has run out on you, please be encouraged today. Here are some Biblical truths about God’s sustaining grace.
God’s Grace Reigns through Righteousness
“The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 5:20-21)
Most of us don’t “feel” righteous on any given day. We struggle with temptations, bad habits, negative thoughts, and other things that make us feel completely inadequate. We’re in a perpetual battle between the Spirit and the flesh; sometimes, the flesh wins. But is God’s grace enough to bring victory over this daily struggle? Yes, and amen!
Our righteousness isn’t produced by us. No amount of goodness can manufacture more righteousness in our lives. It is given through Christ alone, by His perfect sacrifice on the cross. The Bible says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
God’s grace reigns through righteousness, which changed us from dead to living.
Our life is hidden in Christ, washed clean by His blood. There is nothing we can say or do to produce it. It’s always been about Jesus. Knowing this truth relieves us from the pressure of performing well enough for God’s grace. Instead, we rest in the finished work of Christ - our true righteousness and peace.
Lord, thank You for clothing me in righteousness. You have brought me from death to life, and by Your grace I am saved. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.
God’s Grace Is Sufficient in Weakness
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)
We don’t know exactly what Paul’s thorn in the flesh was, but it was painful enough for him to pray three times for the Lord to remove it. We all have something we’d like the Lord to remove, whether it be a physical ailment or a limiting circumstance.
To understand God’s sufficiency, we need to make peace with our weaknesses and trust Him to provide power and strength. This doesn’t mean we stop praying for healing or deliverance; it means we move forward despite our limitations.
Hebrews 4:15-16 says, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Thankfully, we are invited to approach God’s throne and find all the necessary grace. Truly, His grace is sufficient in every problem, pain point, and weakness.
Lord, Thank You for Your limitless sufficiency! I lay all of my weaknesses at Your feet, trusting You to supply the grace needed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God Gives Grace Upon Grace
“For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” (John 1:16 NASB)
John chapter one was the first chapter I read in the Scriptures at the age of 17. My parents had given me a Bible for my birthday, and I read this passage as my introduction to the Living Word of God. I still remember how powerfully He spoke to me back then, and how powerfully He speaks today.
The Scriptures assure us that God’s grace will never run out. From His fullness, we continue to receive grace upon grace. It’s part of who He is! Every moment of every day, we can count on His mercies anew. A “waiting period” doesn't require us to stand in line with a number in hand. We have full access to grace at all times and in every way. What an amazing God we serve!
When the Father sent His Son into the world, He provided limitless grace for those who seek Him. Knowing this doesn’t give us license to take His mercies for granted, or use grace as an excuse to sin, but rather, leads us humbly to His feet in gratefulness and praise.
Ponder the phrase, “grace upon grace,” and journal the ways in which God has continued to pour out grace in your life. Even in the darkest of seasons, how has God’s grace come through for you?
If you have ever felt like God’s grace has run dry, I pray these Biblical reminders have restored your trust in God’s sufficiency. Remember, the enemy will always try to convince us that God’s grace is limited, but we must trust the One who offers abundant grace to all who seek Him. He is able to do far more than we could ever think or imagine. As Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (NLT)
Be encouraged, my friend. No matter how severe your situation is and how impossible your circumstances feel, God’s grace is always, consistently enough.
Heavenly Father, I feel so undeserving of Your grace and mercy, yet, because of Jesus’ sacrifice, I am deemed worthy to receive it. You offer limitless grace for all my weaknesses daily, and Your lavish gift humbles me. Thank You, Father, for not giving up on me or withholding Your tender mercies. Even in my most challenging situations, I can count on You to come for me. Your grace is enough for this, and I am so grateful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
