8 Prayers for Your Sisters in Christ

I have a Christian mentor who has been like an aunt to me. She extends Jesus’ love in her actions, and she is always there for me. Regardless of what I'm going through, she never fails to offer words of wisdom, hope, and encouragement. I am eternally grateful for this sister in Christ.

As women, many things can bring us down. Sadly, even other women can hurt our feelings and tear down our confidence. As followers of the Lord, we must choose to be kind even when others might not return our kindness.

The Apostle Peter tells us, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9).

Let us go to the Lord in prayer today. We can lift our sisters in Christ in prayer, point them back to Jesus, and encourage them to seek out fellowship. Here are 8 prayers for your sisters in Christ.

1. A Prayer to Seek Community

Dear God, everyone needs community with other believers. Please help my sisters in Christ to find a church that loves You and faithfully follows You. Equip them to be the hands and feet of You to their congregation. When they go to church, give them the mindset of “What can I do for the church” rather than “What can I get from the church.”

Transform their heart to reflect Your own. Allow them to be moved by the Scriptures and to learn new things about You. Disciple them and help them to grow in the image of Your Son. Bring their hearts to You and refine them by fire. Amen.

2. A Prayer to Know Their Worth

Dear God, we are all Your workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). Sadly, so many of my sisters in Christ do not know this. They think their worth is tied to their appearance, their success, or their relationship status. Please help them to know that their worth is in You. Help them know they do not have to constantly chase weight loss, new clothes, or the highest-paying job.

Give them peace in their worth. Bless them with Your grace and love. Rather than thinking they constantly need improvement, help them to be content with themselves. Help them to see themselves as You see them, Father. I praise You, God. Amen.

3. A Prayer to Know God loves them

Dear God, we are all dearly loved by You (Romans 8:38-39). Unfortunately, many of my sisters in Christ doubt Your love. Due to the challenging times they have experienced, they believe you do not love them. Some even think you hate them. Please change this way of thinking within their inner hearts.

Help them to know that You love them. Lead their heart to the Scriptures and bring their minds to a state of serenity. Bring to mind all the times Your love has been revealed to them in the past: an answered prayer, an unexpected blessing, or a new start. Thank You for loving us, God. Amen.

4. A Prayer to Know God is Always with Them

Dear God, when I talk with my sisters in Christ, they often doubt Your presence. Since they don't feel you, they have difficulty knowing you are there. Please help them to rely on what they know rather than how they feel. You are always with us, God. You walk with us through the hills and the valleys (Psalm 23:1-6).

Bring them inner peace in knowing that You are always with them. Whether they travel far from home or never leave their hometown, you are with them. It is wonderful to know that You are always with us, protecting us and surrounding us with Your comfort. In Your Son’s Name, I pray, Amen.

5. A Prayer When They Need Rest

Dear God, in our present culture, it can be incredibly hard to take time to rest. Within the modern day, rest is seen as lazy. Please help my sisters in Christ to know there is nothing wrong with resting. We all need our rest. And this rest extends beyond sleeping 8 hours at night.

We also need rest from work, struggles, and emotional issues. There is nothing wrong with taking a break from our daily lives to sit at Your feet in Bible study and prayer. Bless our souls with rest, God. Remove any feelings of guilt from my sisters in Christ’s hearts.

6. A Prayer When Doubts Abound

Dear God, there are so many things that can cause us to doubt. Many times, my sisters in Christ have told me they doubt Your goodness. Since they have gone through so many trying times, it is hard for them to see You as good. Please help them to know that You are good. Equip them with the knowledge that the terrible things happening in this world are because of the fall of humankind, not You (Genesis 3).

Please also help them to know that You work out all things for our good (Romans 8:28). This can bring hope into my sisters’ hearts. Rather than becoming downtrodden when tough times come around, they can begin to see You at work, rebuilding their lives and surrounding them with love. Extinguish their doubts with the embrace of Your love. Amen.”

7. A Prayer When They Are Tempted

Dear God, the devil is constantly prowling around, looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). My sisters in Christ are no exception. Please help them to stand under the weight of their temptations. Equip them with the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Please provide them with a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Help them to overcome any temptations, God. Give them the strength and endurance to run the race You have marked out for them. Keep them loyal to You, their spouse, and their families. I trust You with their futures, God. Amen.”

8. A Prayer When They Feel Far from God

Dear God, there are times when my sisters in Christ feel far from you. This is often due to personal struggles. Please help them to know that You are close to them. You are not far from each of us (Acts 17:27). Surround them with Your comfort as they are navigating this difficult season.

Help them to know that they can bring any worries, concerns, or troubles to You (1 Peter 5:7). You are more than happy to talk with them about anything. Thank You for being our good Father, who is always close to us. In Your Son’s Name, I pray, Amen.

Closing Remarks

This list is not exhaustive. You can continue to pray for your sisters in Christ regardless of what they are facing. God hears all your prayers, and He will answer in accordance with His will. What do your sisters in Christ need today? Pray for them and help them to know that God is at work in their lives.

You are doing a great job at being the hands and feet of Jesus to your sisters in Christ. There is nothing quite like having a friend who is like a sister (Proverbs 18:24). Praise the Lord for the wonderful women He has placed into our lives!
