Spring is a beautiful time to reflect upon God’s beauty and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I have always likened spring to the resurrection because spring is when life returns. The dormant flowers, trees, and plants once again spring to life. The hibernating animals come out to play together. In a way, they are celebrating the Lord's Resurrection.
As we are starting to take in the beauty of spring, we can go to the Lord in prayer. We can give Him praise, reflect upon Him, and bring any concerns to Him. It is wise to pray because it is our direct line of communication with God. Never believe the lie that God doesn't care about how you are feeling. He always wants to hear from you (1 Peter 5:7).
God cares about every feeling that you have. If this spring is bringing pain into your heart, talk with Him about it. In the same way, if spring brings anxiety into your life, bring your concerns to God. He is ready to cover you with His grace, love, and kindness.
Here are 7 prayers for the start of spring.
1. A Prayer for New Starts
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Dear Jesus, spring is a time of new starts! I praise You that I can begin again during the months of spring. I don't have to think about the days of cold, bitter winter. With the new start I have this spring, I'm going to follow You faithfully.
The days of darkness are behind me, and the days of light are ahead. May I always follow You, Lord. My entire life, soul, and heart are ready for the plans You have for me. Thank you for blessing me with a new start. It is because of You that I live. Amen.
2. A Prayer to Not Be Defined by Your Past
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
Dear Jesus, spring helps me to reflect on the truth that my past does not define me. I'm going to compare winter to my past. Just as winter is gone, so are my regrets, mistakes, and struggles. I'm following Paul's advice to forget what is behind and pressing on to what is ahead. This is a wonderful blessing!
When past regrets come into my mind, push them away, Lord. Help me to know that I am beloved by You. My mistakes, shortcomings, or failures do not define me. Instead, I am defined by You. Thank You for redeeming and saving me from my sins, Jesus. Amen.
3. A Prayer to Admire the Beauty of Spring
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).
Dear God, spring attests to Your beauty! How wonderful are Your works! The beautiful sunrise and the brilliant sunset display Your creativity to the world. Every day, You paint the skies, God. The blue, pink, orange, and purple remind me of Your presence.
The beautiful spring blooms and the budding green leaves bring hope to my heart. The days of darkness and death are over. Life has sprung into being once again. The bees will return and pollinate the flowers. The flowers will bloom, and the dragonflies will guard the lakes. I praise You for spring, God. Amen.
4. A Prayer to Form New Memories this Spring
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18-19).
Dear Jesus, please help this spring to be a time of new memories. I fear I have spent too long living in the past. I struggle with the idea that the old days were better. Please help me to form new friendships, cultivate my current relationships, and grow into the person You created me to be. I want to form new memories and be reminded of the beauty of life.
Winter often takes my joy away. It makes me feel hopeless, weak, and empty. Spring brings new hope into my bones. Please let this spring be a time of happy days, joyful celebrations, and true growth in Your Name. Thank You for listening to my prayers, Jesus. Amen.
5. A Prayer to Cultivate Greater Trust in Jesus
“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’” (Mark 9:24).
Dear Jesus, I can relate to the boy’s father in Mark 9:24. I want to believe, yet my unbelief is overbearing at times. Please help me fully trust in You, Lord. I do not want to live in the prison of doubt. This spring, I'm choosing to cultivate trust in You.
Rather than doubting You and Your goodness, I will fully embrace Your love, care, and kindness. I will study about You in the Bible and go to You in prayer. Please increase my faith, Lord. I know You can do all things. Amen.
6. A Prayer to Be Thankful for the Little Things
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Dear Jesus, most of us only think about giving thanks during Thanksgiving, but we can actually give thanks throughout the year. I'm giving you thanks this spring for all the little things. These “little things” are not very little to me. Instead, they are beautiful blessings that attest to Your love. I give You thanks for the flowers blooming in my yard, the warmer weather, and the elegant butterflies.
Spring brings so much joy into my life. Thank you for blessing us with this beautiful season. It is a perfect reminder of Your love after the dark days of winter. The frozen, cold days are over. The days of warmth, hope, and renewal are just beginning. Hallelujah!
7. A Prayer to Come Before the Lord
“Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8).
Dear Jesus, I am coming near You today. Spring reminds me of Your finished work on the cross. It is only because of You that I have forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. You died the death I deserved, yet You never complained once.
Thank You for being my wonderful Savior, Jesus. I cannot wait for the day I will physically meet You in Heaven. It will be a day of celebration and praise. Whether it be in the spring, summer, fall, or winter, I am ready to be with You, Lord. Until then, I will continue to come before You, present my prayers, and study Your Word. Thank you for being my guiding light and my best friend. In Your Name, I pray, Amen.
