Spring is a time for new beginnings and growth. We clean out our closets, garages, bookshelves, and other cluttered areas—helping us clear our minds and start fresh with a decluttered house. People may take a class to improve their job skills or to land a new job. Starting a garden this time of year to watch it grow, enjoying the new beginnings of watching seedlings grow into something outstanding. If you’re looking for a new beginning and to grow with Christ, here are some verses to guide you in doing so.
Embracing God’s Mercies Each Morning
Each morning offers us a new invitation to begin again. We can do this before the daily responsibilities, ruminating over yesterday’s mistakes, and wondering about the uncertainty of what lies ahead. For those of us who trust in the Lord, the dawn of a new day is more than a beautiful, painted sky. It is a reminder that his mercies are fresh, sufficient, and faithful every morning.
The scriptures tell us his mercies are new every morning, and his faithfulness is great. These words reveal the heart of God, that He is steady, compassionate, and unchanging. We live in a world that feels unpredictable, but when the morning comes, we witness divine compassion.
A verse about embracing God’s mercies each morning.
“The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin each morning afresh.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, NLT)
“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5 NLT)
Trusting God When Starting Over
Starting over is difficult, and for believers, it can be extremely hard. Sometimes we wonder, can God still use me after what I’ve been through? Will he provide what I need? What if I try something new and fail again?
However, we remember that new beginnings do not intimidate the Lord. Scripture is full of people who had to start again, like Moses, Job, and Ruth. As we read these stories, we know the Lord was with them every step of the way, and he will be with us, too.
Starting over can be painful and confusing, but trusting God does not mean we pretend everything is fine. It brings the truth of our pain into God’s presence, allowing him to meet us there.
A verse to help you start over.
“But forget all that-it is nothing compared to what I’m going to do, for I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19, NLT)
Letting Go of the Past and Moving Forward
The past has a way of staying with us. In the memories we replay, the regrets we visit, grieving things we’ve lost, and choices we wish we could go back and change. Sometimes the past causes us to live in fear of making the same mistakes, of being hurt again, or of what happened before defining our future, what happens next, and where we are going.
However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Moving forward starts the moment we stop asking our pasts to be different and start asking what we can do now. This is a small but powerful shift that opens the door to healing, growth, and a life guided by possibility over pain.
A verse to help you move forward.
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Phillipians 3:13-14, NLT)
Renewal Through Christ’s Transforming Power
We are all broken and deeply long for renewal in our hearts. People seek this in many ways, such as new routines, relationships, habits, and beginnings. This kind of renewal, however, is never long-lasting. True renewal begins through Jesus in his grace, truth, sacrifice, and living presence.
To be renewed in Christ means we change from the inside out. Renewing in Christ lifts guilt, breaks old patterns, softens hearts, and directs minds toward Christ. No matter how bad we think we are, Christ has the power to renew anyone. However, this change is not instant; it’s steady and life-changing. It’s God restoring what sin ravaged and shaping those who believe in him into his likeness.
A verse about God’s transforming power.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)
Finding Strength for a Fresh Start
Fresh starts are both powerful and overwhelming. It doesn’t matter if it comes after a big life change, a setback, a loss, or an inner revelation that something needs to change; starting over again asks a lot of us. Facing what no longer fits, having the courage to make the change, and trusting that everything will be okay. We remember we aren’t doing this on our own, that the Lord is with us every step of the way. He provides the strength to move on and start a new life.
A verse for finding strength for a fresh start.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT)
Growing in Faith Through Life’s Changes
Life doesn’t stand still; things change all the time. Growing in faith during life’s changes does not mean pretending everything is easy or that every transition makes sense. Instead, we are called to trust the Lord more deeply as our lives unfold. Faith is not just about the peaceful moments but also the uncertain ones.
Faith is trusting in God’s character, promises, and presence. When our lives are stable, faith feels like breathing. However, when things get unpredictable or scary, faith can test and strengthen us. Change reveals where our trust lies and whether we can honestly say that God is good all the time.
A verse about growing through life’s changes.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28, NLT)
God’s Promises for a New Season
Life is full of seasons. Some seasons bring joy, growth, and prosperity, while others fill our lives with trials, loss, waiting, and unexpected change. With each season comes the same question: ‘What now?’ In these moments, the promises of God can soothe our souls and give us hope for the next season ahead.
A promise from God for the new season.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT)
Walking by Faith Into the Unknown
Walking into the unknown can be scary and nerve-wracking, whether it’s a new job, moving to a different city, or starting a new relationship. We don’t know how things will work out, but God does. This is when we need to take a deep breath, pray, and trust Him the most. He has every day of our lives mapped out and knows what He’s doing; we need to trust Him.
A verse about walking by faith into the unknown.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do; and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT)
Living as a New Creation in Christ
When we choose Christ as our Savior, we become a new creation in him. Does this mean that we are instantly perfect? No, and we never can be. We’ll still make mistakes and possibly backslide into old patterns and behaviors as a new Christian. Does this mean we’re doomed? No, it means that we try harder and lean on Jesus for support, strength, and guidance. We stay away from our old ways of life and focus on building new, solid, healthy patterns.
“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.” (Colossians 3:10, NLT)
“For we died and were buried with Christ through baptism. And just as Christ was raised by the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” (Romans 6:4, NLT)
New beginnings and growth can be hard, but with Jesus, anything is possible. If you are going through a new beginning or in a season of growing, one of these verses will speak to your heart and give you strength.
