A Sure-Fire Way To Become Lifeless

All who trust in idols become like the idols they worship.

Vain, without purpose and lifeless altogether.

Psalm 115 describes the idols of the nations as:

  • the work of human hands
  • word-less
  • sense-less
  • action-less

Verse 8 warns us that "those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them." As idols are without effect or life, so we will become if we place our trust in them.

May it not be so for us, Christian women! May we echo the plea in verses 9-11: "O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!"

There is only one Sovereign God, who does all that He pleases (v.3). He alone is worthy of our praise, our submission to His lordship, and all the glory! His love is steadfast, and faithful is He. For He considered us in love, though sinful and rebellious, and sent His only Son to die the death that we deserved. Our praise is to God alone, and our trust in Him and His all-sufficient grace.

What idols in your life need to be recognized and confessed today? The Lord is the One who gives life and purpose, so let us seek Him and trust in Him alone!
