Make a Move Toward God:: Abiding in Christ {Day 1}

Originally published Wednesday, 01 October 2014.

It doesn’t matter where you are.

It doesn’t matter how religious or experienced you may be.

Frankly, God doesn’t care so much what you’ve done in the past.

Today is always the beginning.

If you feel in your heart the yearning and desire to be close to God, to deepen your relationship with Him, to experience a whole new level of intimacy with Jesus and closeness with the Spirit, you have to do only one thing: move toward Him.

That’s it. Seek Him. Take one step toward Him, whatever that looks like in your life.

Whether it’s acknowledging His existence for the first time; repenting of something you know is grieving Him; setting aside a few moments every day to focus on Him; or just letting go of the shame and guilt of where you’ve been in the past–today take one step toward your Abba Father.

Because here’s the truth: God is continually beckoning, calling, urging us to draw near to Him. And He makes this beautiful, mind-blowing promise, that if we move toward Him, He will move toward us.

Draw near to God,
and He will draw near to you.
~James 4:8

He is waiting, eager for you to seek Him and have fellowship with Him.

Forget what has happened in the past. Don’t dwell on your failures or inadequacies.

Forget the former things;
    do not dwell on the past.
See, I {God} am doing a new thing!
~Isaiah 48:18-19

Today, if you do just one thing, if you accomplish only one thing, let it be this: that you sought the Lord with all your heart and opened yourself to the Spirit’s control.  God is waiting for you. He will meet you there.

Day 1 Challenge: Make a move toward God

Father, I’m so far from where I want to be. Forgive me for all the times I’ve made promises I couldn’t keep and tried to reach you through my own three-step process. Forgive me for wallowing in guilt and allowing my own pride to build a wall between us. Today, I want to start fresh. Create in me a clean heart, o God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Grant me the joy of Your salvation, and help me seek You as I go about my day. Thank You for Your promise to move toward me in grace and love. I love you.
