10 Ways Our God is Greater (And Why That's So Great)

We often sing choruses about our God being greater and stronger, but truthfully – God is without comparison. It’s not like we’re on a scale with mankind at one end and God at the other. He’s not even on the scale.

God is measureless. He is boundless and outside of any limit whatsoever. So, it’s not just that God is greater. He is great beyond anything our mind could imagine. “There is none like You, O LORD; You are great, and great is Your name in might,” the scriptures tell us. So how great is our God? Here are 10 ways our God is great.

1. God is so great that it’s incomprehensible to us.

We the finite cannot by nature grasp One who is infinite. Though we try to put words to it, though we try to wrap our mind around it, how can we who live with limits understand One who is without limit? Whose glory no man can see and who dwells in inapproachable light? God’s incomprehensibility doesn’t mean God is unknowable; it means He is not completely knowable. (Jen Wilkin, None Like Him)

God is so great that we can spend our lives getting to know him and still there is more. The unlimited, infinite God has chosen to reveal himself to us. He’s declared who he is in scripture. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever.” Deut. 29:29
