Rachel has a heart for bright eyed, faith-filled, young people with dreams big enough to change the world around them—as she is one such dreamer. She has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Chapman University where she enjoyed interning for Ellen, Access Hollywood, Fox News, as well as spending a week covering the Oscars as a nationwide finalist in an MTVu journalist competition. She grew up shuffling her tap shoes at her mother’s dance studio in Indiana, and had the dream of one day competing for Miss America. In her seven year journey of competing,
Rachel experienced an equal share of victory and disappointment. Her dream was publicly crushed when she was forced to relinquish the Miss Oregon 2012 crown a month after winning the title in 2012 that would send her to Miss America. Out of the heartbreak, she launched Persevering Dreams, a blog where she writes around faith, dreams, perseverance, and finding God in the midst of everyday challenges. Rachel loves writing and speaking to twenty-somethings and currently leads a college women’s Bible study at USC. She loves working with Quarter Life Conference, a free online video conference centered around topics of interest for young adults. When she’s not writing or working, Rachel enjoys marathon running, tap dancing, photography, and her chihuahua dachshund rescue, Tessa. Rachel is a certified Christian Life Coach with the American Association of Christian Counselors and is currently pursuing her Masters in Theology and Ministry at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California.
