When Fear of the Future Gets Loud | Your Nightly Prayer
Fear has a way of taking one unanswered question and building an entire story around it. A health concern becomes a worst-case diagnosis. A financial uncertainty becomes disaster. A family change becomes permanent loss. Before long, we are responding emotionally to events that exist only in our imagination.
In this Your Nightly Prayer devotional, Sophia Bricker reflects on Isaiah 41:13 and God's promise to take His people's hand and say, “Do not fear; I will help you.” Israel's future really was uncertain. They faced exile, displacement, loss, and upheaval. God did not minimize those realities or promise that hardship would disappear. Instead, He anchored them in something stronger than certainty: His presence, power, and faithfulness.
If you're anxious about the future, overwhelmed by “what if” thoughts, or mentally rehearsing worst-case scenarios, Scripture invites you to examine who is narrating the story in your mind. Fear speaks confidently, but it does not know what tomorrow holds. Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us that God goes before His people, while Romans 8:35-39 assures believers that nothing can separate us from His love.
Tonight, you do not need to predict every possibility or prepare emotionally for every outcome. Bring God the future you've been imagining. Ask Him to separate what is true from what fear has invented. You may not receive every answer before you sleep, but you can rest knowing that the God who holds your hand today is already present in tomorrow.
