Strength for the Work Right in Front of You | Your Nightly Prayer

One of the hardest parts of work is not always the work itself.

Sometimes it is keeping our minds where our hands already are.

We sit down to complete one responsibility while mentally carrying five others. We work while wondering whether we should be looking for something better. We plan for the future while feeling guilty that today’s responsibilities remain unfinished.

Sophia Bricker describes this restlessness through the character Milo from The Phantom Tollbooth—someone who always seemed to want to be somewhere other than where he was.

That feeling is surprisingly familiar.

When we are working, we think about what still needs planning.

When we are planning, we think about the work we should be doing.

When we are resting, we think about both.

Worry fragments our attention until even simple tasks feel exhausting.

But Scripture calls us toward a quieter kind of faithfulness.

“As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.”

— 2 Thessalonians 3:13 (NLT)
