Does Your Work Matter to God? | A Labor Day Prayer

Published Sep 03, 2026

Whether you love your work, tolerate it, or feel exhausted by it, your work matters to God.

Long before work became associated with deadlines, difficult bosses, long shifts, and Monday mornings, work was part of God's good design.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

In today's special Labor Day edition of Your Daily Prayer, Lynette Kittle reminds us that Scripture gives purpose to both our work and our rest.

Whatever your labor looks like—at an office, in a classroom, on a jobsite, inside your home, caring for someone you love, or somewhere completely different—you can offer your work to God.

And when it's time to rest, you can receive that gift from Him, too.
