A Prayer to Find Joy in the Simple Things | iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women

Published Oct 13, 2026

Life can become so busy that we miss the small gifts God has placed right in front of us. Responsibilities, distractions, and everyday problems can pull our attention toward what needs fixing instead of what is already worth celebrating.

In this prayer inspired by Kristine Brown’s iBelieve Truth devotional, Psalm 16 reminds us that lasting joy is not dependent on perfect circumstances. God Himself is our portion, our provider, and the source of the gladness our hearts need.

What Does Psalm 16 Teach Us about Joy?

Psalm 16 shows David reflecting on God’s goodness, provision, instruction, and presence. Because God is near and faithful, David can say, “My heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices.” Biblical joy grows when we remember who God is and intentionally notice His goodness—even in ordinary moments.

Why Is It So Easy to Miss the Simple Blessings?

Busy schedules and constant responsibilities can train us to focus on the next task rather than on the gifts already surrounding us. Kristine shares how a simple plaque reading “Enjoy the little things” challenged her to consider whether she was so focused on getting things done that she was overlooking what mattered most.

How Can We Find More Joy in Everyday Life?

Begin by slowing down enough to notice. A meaningful conversation, a quiet moment, time outside, laughter, a meal, or simply the awareness of God’s presence can become reminders of His generosity. Gratitude does not require everything to be perfect; it simply helps us recognize the blessings that are already there.

Where Does Lasting Joy Come From?

Psalm 16 ultimately points us beyond the gifts themselves and toward the Giver. God is our Provider, Sustainer, and source of everlasting joy. When our attention returns to Him, even ordinary moments can become opportunities to rejoice.
