There are seasons when disappointment settles so deeply into our hearts that we begin believing we’ll always feel this way. We replay old hurts, focus on what we’ve lost, and quietly accept a life of simply surviving.

But Jesus never intended for His followers to stay on the ground.

In John 5, Jesus approached a man who had spent years waiting for someone else to change his life. Instead of reinforcing his excuses, Jesus gave him a simple command: “Get up. Pick up your mat and walk.”

The same Savior who spoke those words still speaks hope into our lives today.

Whatever has kept you stuck—pain, disappointment, fear, or self-pity—His grace is greater. Today can be the day you rise in faith and trust Him with your next step.

Scripture

“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.’” — John 5:8

Encouragement

God isn’t asking you to pretend your pain doesn’t exist.

He’s inviting you to believe it doesn’t have the final word.

Healing often begins with one faithful step of obedience. As we look to Christ instead of our circumstances, He replaces discouragement with hope and gives us strength to keep moving forward.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

When disappointment overwhelms me, help me remember that You are still working. Guard my heart from becoming trapped in self-pity or believing that my story is over. Give me the courage to rise, trust Your promises, and walk forward in faith.

Help me seek from You what no person or circumstance can truly provide. Fill my heart with hope, restore my joy, and remind me that Your grace is always enough for today.

Thank You for never leaving me where You found me.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
