A Prayer for Your Child to Develop a Personal Faith | Your Daily Prayer

Children may grow up hearing Scripture before they can read it for themselves.

They may learn to pray because they first heard their parents pray.

They may know worship songs, Bible stories, and familiar verses because those truths were woven into everyday family life.

That foundation matters.

Paul saw it in Timothy.

In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul remembered the sincere faith that first lived in Timothy’s grandmother Lois and then in his mother Eunice. Their faith clearly shaped Timothy’s spiritual foundation.

But Paul did not stop there.

He said that sincere faith now lived in Timothy, too.

That is the beautiful transition every Christian parent hopes to see.

A child can inherit traditions.

They can inherit vocabulary.

They can inherit rhythms of church attendance and prayer.

But they cannot inherit a relationship with Jesus.

At some point, faith must become personal.

There comes a season when a young person begins asking their own questions, wrestling with their own doubts, opening Scripture because they want to know God, and choosing obedience because they personally trust Christ.

Parents can nurture faith.

Only God can transform a heart.

That truth should humble us—but it should also bring tremendous peace.

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”
