A Prayer for Those Walking through Illness | Your Nightly Prayer
Long-term illness can turn everyday life into a cycle of symptoms, appointments, medications, fatigue, and uncertainty. For caregivers, the exhaustion can be just as persistent as they watch someone they love suffer while managing needs that never seem to stop.
In this Your Nightly Prayer devotional, Rachel Wojo draws from her experience caring for her daughter, Taylor, through 22 years of progressive illness. Reflecting on Jeremiah 17:14—“Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed”—Rachel explores what it means to continue praying for healing when the answer has not come in the way we hoped. Jeremiah's prayer acknowledges that healing ultimately belongs to God, while giving hurting people permission to keep bringing their needs honestly before Him.
Christian prayer for healing is not a formula, bargaining tool, or guarantee that physical recovery will happen according to our preferred timeline. Scripture allows us to ask boldly for healing while still entrusting the outcome to God. For those living with chronic illness, disability, pain, or ongoing health concerns, faith does not require pretending the suffering is easy or denying the value of medical treatment and practical care.
If you're exhausted from managing a body that isn't working the way it once did—or caring for someone whose body is failing—God is not tired of hearing your prayers. Bring Him the physical pain as well as the fear, grief, discouragement, and weariness beneath it. Tonight, you can continue asking for healing while releasing the burden of having to manage everything yourself.
Thank you for joining us tonight. We hope this prayer has encouraged your heart.
