A Prayer for Helping Someone with a Broken Heart | Your Daily Prayer

Published Aug 20, 2026

When someone we love is hurting, we often feel pressure to fix it.

We search for the right words.

We offer advice.

We try to make sense of what happened.

We reassure them that things will eventually get better.

Sometimes those responses come from love.

But sometimes the hurting person needs something simpler.

They need someone who will stay.

Someone who will listen.

Someone who will cry with them.

Someone who will not rush the grief.

Romans 12:15 tells us:

“Mourn with those who mourn.”

That is remarkably simple.

It does not say:

Explain the grief away.

Fix the situation.

Find the silver lining.

It says:

Enter the sorrow with them.

“Mourn with those who mourn.”

— Romans 12:15b
