7 Powerful Bible Verses to Pray for Healing — Body, Mind, and Soul

Jennifer Waddle

When your prayers for healing seem redundant, turn to the Living Word of God. Repeat the words of many who cried out for physical, spiritual, and emotional healing. Let their example encourage and uplift you today. Here are 7 Bible verses to pray when you’re seeking healing.

1. Jeremiah 17:14-15 (ESV)

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. Behold, they say to me, “Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come!”

Jeremiah sought the Lord for healing and rescue. Even when his enemies questioned God’s faithfulness, Jeremiah remained steadfast. Let his petition for healing become your prayer today.

Lord, how I need Your healing touch from head to toe. Not only is my physical body weary, but my mind and soul are weary as well. Please heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed! Save me, and I shall be saved! You are my praise. I trust Your word more than any other message. Let Your words of comfort reach my ears. Put my enemies to shame as You prove Yourself faithful again and again. I seek You more than my daily bread, and I love You more than my life. I trust You today for complete healing, in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

2. 1 Peter 2:24-25 (NIV)

“‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’ For ‘you were like sheep going astray,’ but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Peter’s profound reminder of our Spiritual healing in Christ is a gift from God. Receive his words anew today and form them into a personal prayer.

Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing my sins on the cross. You bore the weight of them so that I would be set free. Help me live victoriously in the healing You provide - dead to sin and alive in You. Your precious wounds have healed me; I will never forget this. I praise You for leaving the ninety-nine to find me. I was like a sheep going astray, but by Your sacrifice, You have brought me back and healed me from my transgressions. How wonderful You are, Good Shepherd and Overseer of my soul. I praise Your holy name, amen.

3. Psalm 147:3 (AMP)

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].”

The psalmist assures us of the Physician’s comforting touch, healing our broken hearts and binding our wounds. Let’s rejoice in these promises today!

Holy God, You are the God of all comfort, healing my fragile heart and carefully binding my wounds. Please put the pieces back together and make me whole again! I trust You to heal my pain, replacing sorrow with the joy of Your presence. For at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11). I seek Your comfort now, drawing close to You as You draw close to me. I rest in Your loving embrace as You tenderly heal every part of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Psalm 103:2-5 (ESV)

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

King David lavishly praises God for His healing benefits and blessings. Let’s praise the Lord for all He has done and has yet to do.

Gracious God, I bless You wholeheartedly and thank You for all Your excellent benefits. I am forgiven, healed, redeemed, and crowned. This is only by Your hand, Father, and I am humbly grateful. I believe David’s words that You heal all my diseases, and I trust You to hear my cry for help. Just as all my iniquities have been cast into the sea, every sickness and disease is cast out. Thank You for redeeming my life and saving me from sin and death. I rejoice that I am crowned with steadfast love and mercy, satisfied with good things, renewed and restored. Bless the Lord, O my soul. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.

5. Psalm 41:3 (NIV)

The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.

Hold fast to David’s words of promise that God sustains and restores. The Lord is with you through every illness, disease, and pain. Pray boldly in faith today!

Lord God, I know I live in a fallen world of sickness and disease. Please sustain me when I’m ill and work through my body with complete healing and restoration. You know every cell in my system, for You fashioned me in my mother’s womb. Lord, please eradicate all sickness and disease, breathing new life and vitality into my lungs. I want to serve You without hindrance, and being ill hinders my work for the Kingdom. Thank You, Lord, for sustaining, healing, and restoring me to full health. I turn my eyes to You, my faithful Healer and Friend. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.

6. James 5:13-15 (ESV)

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the church’s elders, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.

Let the words of James build your faith today as you follow his steps for healing. In the name of the Lord, pray for healing with the belief that He will do it!

Holy God, You see my suffering more than anyone, yet You provide trusted pastors to pray for me and anoint me with oil. Help me step outside my comfort zone and call on my church leadership for intercession. I trust that the prayer of faith will save me from this sickness. And I trust that You will raise me in due time. My hope is in You, Lord! In Jesus’ name, amen.

7. Jeremiah 30:17 (NKJV)

For I will restore health to you, and heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.

Jeremiah reminded Israel that there was only one Deliverer, the Lord God Almighty. He pointed them to God’s ability to restore health and heal them of their wounds. Commit your plans to the Lord, your ultimate Healer, in all your searching for the proper treatment, medicine, and protocol.

Gracious Heavenly Father, there are so many treatments available to us today. Thank you to the medical doctors who do their best to heal. However, I know You are the Great Physician, willing to restore my health and heal my wounds. I commit every pill, procedure, and protocol to You, Lord. Please use whatever you need to heal my body, mind, and spirit. I want to live many years with strength and vitality to do the good works You prepared for me. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.
