10 Bible Verses You Need to Know about Hope

Laura Polk

Hope is one of the core elements of the Christian faith. It’s a desiring of things that we can’t understand how they will happen, but want them to. It gives us courage and confidence in moving forward. It provides encouragement and builds our faith. It even offers an eternal perspective that goes beyond our day-to-day.

Are you searching for hope? Let these verses wash over you today:

1. God’s Hope Gives Peace and Joy

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

2. God Has a Good Plan for You

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (Jeremiah 29:11)

3. God Listens to You and Knows You

“Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.” (Malachi 3:16)

4. God Wants to Celebrate Your Faith

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” (Matthew 25:21)

5. Hope is to be Passed Onward

“So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.” (Psalm 78:7)

6. God Fights for You

“‘Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,’ Joshua told his men. ‘Be strong and courageous, for the Lord is going to do this to all of your enemies.’” (Joshua 10:25)

7. Your Hope Gives God Great Joy

“No, the Lord’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.” (Psalm 147:11)

8. God Walks with You

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17)

9. There are Better Things to Come

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

10. God is in Charge

“Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” (Romans 13:1)

At its core, hope is a tool that helps us to build our faith for the future while giving us something to cling to in the here and now. Stay encouraged in your faith. Practice dreaming of what is to come, by allowing yourself to be filled with the hope that comes from God.
