TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.” - Psalm 145:13

SOMETHING TO PONDER

When you’re in the middle of the process, God remains faithful.

We spend most of our lives waiting. Waiting for a grade. Waiting to graduate. Waiting to get married. Waiting to get pregnant. Waiting for a better job. Waiting for the test results. Waiting is something we all have in common. If we aren’t waiting for resolution in some area right now, then we likely just emerged from a season of waiting.

As a foster parent, I’ve become very acquainted with the challenge of waiting. Over the past six years, we’ve been prayerfully waiting for placements, court dates, paperwork completion, information, adoption dates, and so much more.

I’ve learned that trusting God while waiting is hard. I’ve had to talk myself down from the ledge of overwhelm and panic over and over again. Mostly I’ve had to confront my true beliefs about God’s goodness, sow His word into my heart, and make the conscious choice to trust Him even when my heart was so thoroughly on the line.

The truth is, all the months spent in the mid-season with my kids taught me how to ask God for his help moment by moment and day by day. I had no guarantees about the outcome in these situations, so I was forced to trust God and focus on the work right in front of me. I often asked myself whether I could manage to care for my current family just for today? The answer was always yes. When I stepped back, trusted God for the present moment, and released all my worries about the future I could not control, peace was possible.

If you feel stuck in a season of waiting, remember God is with you today. He is both trustworthy and faithful, meeting our needs each day. We can trust him with our future and find peace through His amazing grace.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

God,
I thank you that you are trustworthy and faithful to us. Your mercies are new every morning, and you walk with us as we navigate the midseasons of life. Give us the strength we need to get through today. To care for our families. To do your good work. Remind us that we can cast our cares on you. That you promise to give us a hope and a future. We release our future into your hands and accept your supernatural peace for our lives.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

  1. How can you better focus your thoughts on today and release your future to the Lord?
  2. How has your faith grown in the midseasons of life?
  3. Remember how God has been faithful. Retell the ways he has cared for you in past waiting seasons.
