TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

“Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind” - Psalm 107:8

SOMETHING TO PONDER

What’s the last thing many of us think about at the end of the day, before falling asleep? Do we watch the latest newscast that fills our minds with the troubles of the world? Or, do we watch an action-packed film that stirs up anxiety and fears? Both options fill our minds with stress and worry before lying our heads on our pillows. Or, are we so tense from the day’s activities, conversations, and interactions that our minds are already looking towards planning tomorrow’s activities? If so, we’re missing out on ending our night by remembering the ways God loves us and taking the time and effort to express our gratitude to Him for His presence in our lives and help throughout our days. Psalm 5:12 reminds us,

“Surely, Lord, You bless the righteous; You surround them with your favor as with a shield.”

The truth is, each day, God is with us, helping us in more ways than we may know or can even count. Even if we brush over throughout the day, we can stop and take time to end our night with deep gratitude for His presence and involvement in our lives. When we choose to end the day with gratitude towards Him, just the thought of Him helps ease our hearts and minds, softening and removing the worries of the day and the days ahead.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank you for the ways you were present and involved in my life today. Forgive me if I overlooked how Your word led my way today, if I brushed over thanking You for answered prayers, or if I took for granted Your favor that surrounds me like a shield. Fill my heart with gratitude, tonight, O Lord, let me sleep and rest overflowing with Your greatness and goodness on my lips.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen

THREE THINGS TO PONDER UPON

  1. Consider thanking God for His word in your heart, which directs your steps toward life. Every day, you are constantly making decisions about how to respond, which way to go, and what to say, and His word leads you in ways that benefit your life.
  2. Thank God for giving you the invitation to pray, for the help He gives through it to solve the issues and problems in your life. Even if you may not recognize all the ways He is working on your behalf, hearing your prayers about situations, people, and yourself, He is helping to solve the troubles and problems in your life, bringing resolutions, reconciliations, and peace.
  3. Why not thank Him for the daily favor that surrounds and shields you? As you go out and face an unloving world, God’s favor works as a shield over your life, protecting you from the loveless world encountered on a daily basis. His shield keeps your heart and mind tender and softened towards Him.
