TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” - Psalm 27:1

SOMETHING TO PONDER

As new things grow, God remains your steady courage.

Most of us don’t like change, but change is an unstoppable force in this world God created. How then do we manage the anxiety-inducing changing nature of our lives?

I remember that, as a new mom, this question kept me up at night. I would stare at my precious baby boy and wish that I could just press pause. Forever would not have been long enough for me to adore my tiny bundle of joy. I was truly terrified by how quickly time seemed to be going by; my child was changing every day, and I was scared I was going to miss something.

Over time and with the addition of five more kids, I have moments of grief, especially now with a rising 9th grader, as I watch my kids daily change and grow. I’ve learned to ask Jesus to give me the courage I need to face each new parenting season. I can’t stop the hands of time, so I must embrace God’s grace that allows me to enjoy each new season.

The secret gift of change is that as new things grow, new joys are unlocked. I loved my tiny bundle of joy, but now I am delighted to watch him grow into a young man. With courage, we can boldly give thanks for change as it constantly crashes into our lives.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

God,
I thank you for making our world one that is in constant motion. Nothing stays the same; change is always upon us in both big and small ways. Show me how to appreciate each new season in our lives. Give me the courage I need to move forward, to age gracefully, and to give thanks for what I am presented with today. Thank you that by your miraculous power, the best is yet to come. I always have Heaven to look forward to, making the future forever full of hope.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

  1. How can you better process your grief over the changes that have happened in your life?
  2. Take time to give thanks for the season you are in and the new work that God is doing in your heart.
  3. Meditate on the truth that the best is yet to come. There is always hope for the future with Jesus.
