Trust and Obey - Wholly Loved - October 10

Trust and Obey
By Jennifer Slattery

“The Lord said to Abraham, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

For the first thirty-some years of my life, I lived like a hamster darting every which way and getting nowhere. God had a plan; I just wasn’t aware of it yet and never sat still long enough to listen for it.

I never thought I’d be a writer. I never envisioned I’d one day lead women or speak to church groups. And yet, when I look back, I see how He’s been guiding me in this direction all along.

Unfortunately, I hadn’t been listening. I was too focused on my goals and building the life I thought I needed. Dreams I thought would bring the most fulfillment and security.

Often, we need to release something in order to grab hold of God’s best.

For some, that may mean changing jobs or readjusting their schedule. It may mean stepping away from something to make time to serve. When God asked me to trade my plans for His, I resisted. But He pushed, prodded, and nudged me to release my death grip on my agenda. He asked me to trust in Him—no matter how foggy the road ahead appeared.

That often seems to be how God leads. When He called Abraham, the Father of the Jewish nation, He told him to go.

“Where Lord?”

"To the land I will show you."

In other words, trust in Me, obey Me. I’ll reveal My plan in My timing.

I believe that’s true for all of us. I like to know what’s ahead. But God says, “Trust and obey.”

I like to know how everything will turn out. But God says, “Trust and obey.”

No matter where I am on my journey, whether I’m just beginning to catch a glimpse of His plan or am stuck in the thick of it, my role is simple—to trust and obey.

He’ll take care of the rest, in His way and perfect timing.

And when His plan unfolds and I’m centered in His will, it’ll be better, more glorious, than anything I could’ve imagined.
