Letting Jesus Be Our King - Wholly Loved - November 29

Letting Jesus Be Our King

By Kristen Terrette

“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me will save it.” Luke 9:23

A statement made by the pastor deeply convicted me and forced me to wrestle with an uncomfortable truth.

“Maybe you’ve surrendered some of your life to Jesus,” he said, “but not all of it. Maybe you’ve yet to trust Him with your family, or your marriage, or maybe your career. Maybe today you need to fully give Him all of it, not just certain parts.”

Tears flowed. I’d relinquished my loved ones to Him but held tight to my career. When it came to my writing, I didn’t fully believe He could keep His promises. I relied on my strength and tried to forge my own way.

When I sought prayer, I could barely able to spit out the truth God had revealed.

There, in the quiet presence of God, my prayer partner said, “God, You will use her writing for You. She will pen Your words for all to read.”

She didn’t know I was a writer. Clearly, God used her to speak promises over me once again. He is that faithful. Even in my weakness, He was there, waiting to encourage me.

When we hold tightly to parts of our life and our plans happen, we inevitably fail. But when we take up our cross and surrender all to God, we experience the abundant life He’s promised. This isn’t a life without problems, but one full of peace in the circumstances because He’s on our side, leading the way like only a King of Kings can.

Months later, my mind no longer drifts to the “what ifs” or “whys” or dwell on how my career will play out. I just take steps with Him, letting Him be my Leader and King. This frees me from anxiety and fills my spirit with joy and peace.

Each day, God invites us to lay down our cares and concerns, pick up our cross, and follow Him, wherever and however He leads.
