We Can’t Fathom The Goodness of God
 By Dawn Neely

There has not failed one word of all His good promises. 1 Kings 8:56 NAS

We can never fathom the height, depth, length and breadth of God’s goodness. As I think of all that is true about God, I am moved from the depths of humility to the heights of praise. I must admit there have been times that I could not understand why things came my way. Yet God’s Word and my faith confirm that You, O God, are in full control of all that happens in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). My limited mind cannot comprehend how infinitely good You are. And I am humbled that You, the Most High over all, have lovingly reached down to the dust of the earth to show grace, compassion and mercy to me.

Though You have chosen to lower Yourself to walk with me, may I never lower my thoughts of You. May I never lose my sense of Your awesome majesty and goodness. You never make a mistake. Your wisdom is always right. You are never defeated. You are never wrong or unaware. You never break a promise. You never sin. You are never too preoccupied to stop and listen to my prayers. Your goodness to all of us is beyond our earning power. You are just, righteous and sovereign.

God’s goodness is sometimes masked as an unwelcome occurrence. But I have learned that He is supreme over every circumstance in my life regardless of how severe it is. God’s goodness will always win out. Because He will never be defeated... neither will I! God’s goodness also comes in the warmth of a friend’s embrace. God’s goodness comes through forgiveness, mercy, love, a second chance and the promise of an abundant life on earth and an eternal home in glory.

“God only is infinitely good. A boundless goodness that knows no limits, a goodness as infinite as His essence, not only good, but best; not only good, but goodness itself, the supreme inconceivable goodness.” Stephen Charnock

Dear Heavenly Father, Your goodness in my life is no less than a track record of faithfulness. When I look back, I can remember those times You rescued me. Those times that You gave me a blessing greater than I expected. I also remember those times when You answered my prayers in the most powerful way. May the confidence I have in Your goodness from the past renew my confidence for the future. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
