The Whole Truth
By Judy Fussell

For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Luke 8:17

Are you bombarded by information coming at you so quickly these days? We hardly have time to absorb it! The media supposedly reports truth; yet many times, we find out later we have been duped. People so often twist the truth to prove their own agenda! When we live with certain biases and beliefs, our perception of what is true can be miles away from another with a different perspective. It’s clear these days that the “so-called” truth you receive from the media depends on which news channel you happen to tune in to. A lie from someone close is like a slap, and trust is broken. Faith in our government is quickly being eroded as we observe politicians publically calling each side liars! Hate for those with differing opinions is alarmingly escalating!

This is nothing new. Jesus called Satan a liar and the father of lies. He is a deceiver who disguises himself as an angel of light (John 8:44; 2 Corinthians 11:14). In the end, he will meet his demise (Revelation 12:9), and it will not be pretty!  In the meantime, he wants all unbelievers to remain blinded to the truth. He knows his time is limited and his desire is to deceive and destroy individual lives and the world at large (2 Corinthians 4:4). Another of his schemes is to place doubt into the lives of those who have chosen to believe God. This can result in distress, depression, and defeat rather than the life of freedom and inner peace found in Christ alone. That’s why we are constantly reminded in scripture to renew our minds and guard our thoughts (Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:8).

Jesus said He is the Light of this World! One component of light that has been so evident to me this winter is its ability to reveal the truth! Recently my industrious husband spent a whole day washing our windows both inside and out. They were pristine, or so we thought. As the morning sun streamed in the next day, we were both appalled! Our perfectly clear, unblemished windows were streaked and full of imperfections! Also, the rooms we thought were clean were covered in layers of dust. UGH! The bright morning light had revealed the whole truth.

I guess that is a bit like us as people. We may believe and think things are a certain way, but only “The Light of this World” can open our eyes to absolute truth! It is found in the very character and heart of God. He is Truth!

As we journey through these unprecedented days, I challenge you to seek the whole truth, and when you find it, dwell there! Our world is chaotic and dark, but we have a choice to be released from the darkness into the light.

Meditate on the following Scriptures:

“Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.” Psalm 43:3

Food for thought:

“Truth when not sought after, rarely comes to light.” - Oliver Wendell

“The less time you spend with TRUTH the easier it is to believe LIES.” - Lecrae

Lord, You have made it clear in Your Word that truth abides with You. You have offered choice to all mankind. We may accept You and Your plan to rescue and save us for an eternity in Your presence; or we may choose to be duped by the wiles of crafty, “enlightened” ones who refuse to come into Your light. We know, Lord, that You are the ultimate victor in the unseen battle that is raging. Now is the time to believe and walk solely in truth.
