Overcome the Struggle With Discontentment – Beloved Women – November 8, 2019

READ

“I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (Philippians 4:12 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

Does it seem like society is becoming less and less content by the minute?  Daily, we congregate on our Facebook pages like teens in high school.  We casually play the one-up-game, as we post our vacation pictures, latest accomplishments, and foodie pics.

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in it all.  We are duped into believing our lives would be better if we had more money, better vacations, and ate out every day of our lives.  Paul however, states in Philippians 4:12, that he has found the secret to being content in any and every situation.

Is this actually possible?  Are his words relevant for today?  I would venture to say they are. We too can know contentment.  Paul’s secret is found in the earlier part of Philippians 4.  In verse 4:4, he encourages us to, “Rejoice in the Lord always. . .” (ESV)  Paul rejoiced in God no matter what his circumstances were.  This is the heart of contentment.  Being content is not dependent on receiving what we want, rather it’s being grateful for what we have.

PRAY

Lord, thank You for the abundant blessings You have already given to me.  Help me to appreciate them every day of my life.  Where I am struggling with discontentment, may I choose gratitude for all You have done for me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

What do you have to be grateful for today?
