Laughter is Good for the Soul - Beloved Women - November 23, 2018
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting. - Job 8:21 ESV
When is the last time you had a good laugh? When I laugh my mood is lighter, my body relaxes, and any immediate worries diminish. Laughter lifts our spirits and helps us to enjoy the richness life has to offer.
In Job 8:21, Bildad is speaking to Job and believes that Job is an unjust man which is why he was enduring suffering. According to Bildad, if Job returns to God, God will restore all the things he lost including joy and laughter. God reminds us that laughter is good for the soul and it is essential for our spirits.
While the responsibilities of life are endless, I encourage you to pause and laugh. Laughing can help remind us that life is to be enjoyed, and not simply endured. Laughter is infectious and can help to uplift the spirits of ourselves and others. Many times, the heaviness of life attempts to keep us from laughing and celebrating. However, God wants our laughter and joy to exude from our spirits as a source of hope.
Dear God, thank you for the gift of laughter. Renew in me a desire to laugh and enjoy more of the simple things in life. Forgive me for times when I’ve allowed the weight of life to keep me from laughing and stealing my joy. May you continue to place in me laughter to uplift my spirit in those around me today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Name one thing that you can laugh about that will uplift your spirit today.
