Simple Commitments That Can Change Everything - Beloved Women - May 19, 2022
READ: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers…” (Acts 2:42 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: “It don’t take all that”, is a phrase my Granny would often use whenever someone was taking too long, or doing too much, or just being too much for her.
I tell myself that sometimes, especially when I find myself overwhelmed with all of the “good” things that I can pile onto an already overloaded plate.
Acts 2:42 gives us a brief glimpse into the rapidly growing early church. Peter had recently preached a gospel message where three thousand people trusted Christ.
They, in turn, did the following:
- Devoted themselves to learning about God and His Word.
- Fellowshipped with His people.
Simple, but life-changing. Committing to these three actions made a dual impact. Externally, it dictated how they viewed their possessions and cared for others. Internally, it created joyful and sincere hearts, characterized by praise.
Their simple commitment changed everything - and “it didn’t take all that”.
As a result, God’s church grew - spiritually and numerically.
PRAY: Father God, in the midst of a noisy world, please show me those areas where I am “doing too much”. Help me simplify my life, focusing on those things that will ultimately lead to growth- my own and those around me because of the changes You are making in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECT: In which of the three areas are you currently thriving? Where are you struggling?
SHARE: The simple commitment of Bible reading, fellowship with other believers, and prayer can change everything.
