Stumbling in the Dark – Beloved Women – July 28, 2021
“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.” - Proverbs 4:18-19 ESV
Stumbling in the dark is one sure way to ultimately end up lost and hurt. It’s not difficult to convince most people of this truth in a physical sense, but many times people stubbornly reject this wisdom on a spiritual level.
In Proverbs 4:18-19, we learn that when we divert from the path of righteousness – meaning we reject God’s design for our lives – we end up stumbling around in spiritual darkness. Each decision to reject God’s truth, is like declining a torch to light our path on a pitch-black night.
But the good news is we don’t have to remain in darkness. We can illuminate our lives with the light of God’s Word. (Psalm 119:105) With the insight we glean from the scriptures, our paths glimmer like a beautiful sunrise that grows more brilliant throughout the day.
As you journey through life, be wise and carry the torch of God’s truth to brighten up your path.
Dear God, I thank you for providing me with a spiritual torch: your word. May I allow it to illuminate my path and penetrate my heart. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Consider your current spiritual season. Do you detect any dark areas that could use more of God’s light? Which verses can you use to shine a light onto that area?
