The Best Gift – Beloved Women – July 15, 2021
“Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!” - 2 Corinthians 9:15 NLT
When I was nine years old, I received a Walking Wendy doll for Christmas. Wendy was 3 feet high and could walk while I held her hand. As I opened that gift, I had an ear-to-ear grin on my face. I treasured that doll for as long as my little nine-year-old heart could do so. Most of us try to be thoughtful gift givers and strive to be gracious when receiving gifts. As a gracious giver, I’m always hopeful that the receiver treats my gift with the care I used to select it. It’s disturbing when you see a good gift treated like garbage.
Without understanding the beauty of God’s gift of love, so many take it for granted. Have you ever received a gift that left you speechless? It was as if the gift giver was in your head, and knew it was what you needed. Your gratitude then renders you speechless. God gave us an unspeakable gift in His Son. It is one that leaves us speechless initially. Our ongoing gratitude then evokes praise and thanksgiving.
Dear Lord, as Iconsider the gift of your Son, give me agrateful heart that willmake megenerous to those around me. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
What gifts leave you speechless? Do they compare to the gift of God’s love to you?
