You Are Not Defeated – Beloved Women – January 30, 2019
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 NIV
Over the last four months, life has come at me hard and fast. My son endured a life-threatening hospital stay. While he was still healing, I had to send him back to college, 800 miles away. A close relative died. I had tendonitis. I had to deal with some heartbreaking disappointments. And my husband had a health scare. I am emotionally exhausted.
2 Corinthians 4 described well how I felt – hard pressed on every side, perplexed, struck down. I felt the punches coming in rapid-fire succession. Sometimes in life, it seems like we’re on the ropes. But look with me at the hope in these verses. As believers, we are NOT crushed; we are NOT in despair; we are NOT abandoned, and we are NOT destroyed. God tells us twice in 2 Corinthians 4, “Do not lose heart.” If you are struggling today beloved, remind yourself of these truths that the life of Jesus may be revealed in you.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for never leaving me alone in the trials of this earthly life. I thank You for the hope that I have in Jesus Christ. Please fortify me with Your strength. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Are you keeping your focus on the Lord, the source of your strength, in your troubles?
