Asking God to Forgive Our Sins – Beloved Women – April 6, 2020

READ: “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” (Proverbs 10:19 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Some people are born with the ability to talk continuously. We find such people everywhere, and they can talk on and on. Never-ending speeches or prayers cause me to lose interest in the speaker.

King Solomon might nod his head in agreement. He wrote today’s Proverb to address this issue. This idea of too many words gets mentioned other times in the Bible also. Solomon wants us to understand that the number of words can lead to exaggeration and even untruthfulness. Solomon offers that a wise man will guard his words (Proverbs 13:3 ESV).

I think I try to use too many words when I pray for forgiveness of my sins. I try to bury my sins among the flowery language in hopes that God will not find them. However, He already knows them all. I can’t hide them from my Savior. I am learning to keep my prayer simple and ask God to please forgive my sin.

PRAY: Lord Jesus, please forgive me for all the times I try to hide behind a multitude of words. Please help me to remember that You already know everything about me. Teach me to make my words count. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: What situation are you trying to hide behind a wall of words, so no one discovers your sin?

SHARE: The Bible teaches us that wisdom comes from God and not from the number of words we speak. A few simple words can speak volumes.
